Chopped strands produced by cutting PAN-based carbon fibre to length. Filament diameter is 7.0–10 μm, tensile strength 3.6–3.8 GPa and modulus 240–280 GPa, with carbon content ≥95%, density 1.6–1.76 g/cm³ and volume resistivity about 1.5×10⁻³ Ω·cm. Common lengths are 1/2/3/6/15/20 mm for thermoplastics and up to 1–100 mm for thermosets. Main uses are automotive interior and exterior parts, battery electrodes, friction materials, conductive coatings and EMI shielding or insulating materials.
