A non-woven mat in which chopped glass strands are distributed randomly in a non-directional lay and bonded with powder or emulsion binder — soft, highly conformable and with no fibre direction. Common weights are 300, 450, 600, 900 and 1000 g/m²; binder content is typically 3%–5% (higher for emulsion types), moisture content is generally ≤0.2%, and standard widths are 1190 mm or 1270 mm, or customized. Suitable for hand lay-up, compression moulding, filament winding and continuous processes, it is the standard surfacing and build-up material for FRP hand lay-up work.
