An ultra-thin mat wet-laid from very fine chopped glass fibres and bonded with a small amount of binder; the fibres are randomly oriented, making it soft and semi-transparent, and it is used mainly as the surface layer of composite parts. Common weights are 50/60/90 g/m² with about 18%–20% binder and a standard width of 1.0 m; a 43 g/m² wall-grade version also exists. It is used as the surfacing layer of FRP parts to improve appearance and form a resin-rich corrosion barrier, and also as a substrate for roofing and wall waterproofing, suspended ceilings, gypsum board and flooring.
